Nursing pins are traditionally given when a nurse graduates and will usually contain details of their school.  Nursing pins are also sometimes given by hospitals and other workplaces.  Pins sometimes contain abbreviations of the nurses’ level of education and certification, such as RN, LPN, CNA and so on.

Generic nursing pins are usually the easiest to find and also the cheapest to buy, because they don’t require any special printing or other work.  Because of this they are also usually much faster to arrive, so if you’re in a hurry you may want to go down this route.  You can get generic pins that are made of enamel and iron which are fairly cheap, and usually cost somewhere between $7 and $15 each, depending on the size, quality and quantity.

Custom nursing pins are obviously required if you’re ordering for a group of students or staff.  When ordering custom pins, you can usually select the size and shape of the pins, as well as the images and wording you’d like to have.  Generally you could make the image either the logo of your organization or a photo, along with a name and possibly a motto or other words that are meaning for you and for the recipients of the pins.  When ordering custom nursing school pins, remember to shop around and check for prices in different places, and also be sure to make sure you find a company that you’re happy with and can find good references for.  There’s nothing worse than ordering hundreds (or more) of a customized item only to find that the quality is poor, that they don’t arrive on time, or that they are just not what you were hoping for.  Custom pins usually don’t cost much more than generic ones, however, you do need to order usually several hundred as a minimum, so keep this in mind when planning which pins to buy.

Regardless of whether you’re buying generic or custom-made nursing pins, you’ll need to decide what kind of material or metal you’d like the pin to be made of.  Probably the most common kind of gold or gold-plated, but depending on where you are or where you’re graduating from, pins might be made of something more significant to the local area such as copper, pewter or silver.  Some pins will come simply in the color of the original metal with a design imprinted, while others will have a colored section added on top from enamel, or possibly using colored stones or other natural objects.

The other big decision you’ll need to make is regarding the shape of the pin.  Circles are probably the most widely used basic shape for pins, but crosses, ovals and a variety of other shapes are also found.  The best here is to simply go with something that you think will look attractive and suitable for the overall design and feel that you want the pin to have.
